|This project financed by SDC (Swiss Development Cooperation Agency) from 2008 to 2012 was a backstopping mandate carried out by the Geneva University Hospital(HUG) through the Division of Tropical and Humanitarian medicine (DTHM) and University of Geneva Faculty of Medicine (UNIGE) through the Unit of Development and Research in Medical Education (UDREM) on reforms of the pre-graduate medical education in Kyrgyzstan.
Since 2013, the HUG and UNIGE have again been selected by SDC to continue supporting the medical education reform in this country. The focus not only includes the pre-graduate level, but also post-graduate (PGME) and continuous medical education (CME). This new phase will be carried out until 2017. The aim is to develop a national strategy in terms of medical education and create a new training program with an emphasis on general and family medicine in order for Kyrgyzstan to be able to address its current health challenges in the area of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cardio-vascular diseases.
